JOB SUMMARY
The Fitness Coach is responsible to create an active and engaging environment by providing a variety of lifestyle options for resident members to enjoy based upon their unique and varied physical and social capabilities. The Coach is responsible to develop, promote, and lead the community’s wellness and fitness programs. The Coach will have autonomy to research and organize new programs, refine existing ones, and work with resident members in the broadest possible spectrum of needs, ability levels, and interests. In addition, the Coach will participate with other community staff to promote wellness-related programs and activities for the community as a whole, resident members, staff, and business partners. The Fitness Coach reports to the Arts & Leisure Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Coordinate and plan fitness and other forms of exercise and wellness events and activities- Oversee the safe utilization of Fitness Center, its equipment and the pool area
- Foster essential relationships with our current and new members to orient them to the Fitness Center equipment and other wellness offerings
- Provide tailored fitness plans based on resident members’ individual needs, health conditions, and level of ability and activity
- Collaborate with community staff to provide meaningful support and programming for fitness and wellness initiatives
- Coordinate and maintain resident member information, inventories, purchasing, scheduling, and other administrative matters related to the maintenance of the Fitness Center and other wellness areas and equipment
- Collaborate with and supervise outside contractors who have been approved and appointed to provide fitness or well-being classes for resident members and ensure service agreements (if applicable) are in order, including background checks, licenses and certifications, and liability insurance
- Serve as a liaison to health and fitness-related organizations in the local community
- Assist with planning, executing and staff annual community Wellness Fair for residents and staff
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
ESSENTIAL MENTAL AND PHYSICAL FUNCTIONS

- Work schedule includes evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is conducted primarily in a senior living community and its surrounding grounds. This position involves a wide variety of environmental and atmospheric conditions. This position frequently requires working within strict deadlines, under stressful conditions and with a variety of personalities, who may at times be emotional.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Two-year Associate or Bachelors Degree from a recognized college or university with a degree in Fitness or Exercise Science preferred.
- Minimum 2 years experience in fitness programming with older adults, preferably in a continuing care retirement community or similar setting.
- Certified as a Senior Fitness Specialist or ability to be certified within 6 months of employment.
- Certified as a one-on-one personal trainer or ability to be certified within 6 months of employment.
- Certified in aquatic exercise or ability to be certified within 6 months of employment.
- Current CPR or ability to receive CPR certification within 2 months of employment
- Computer literacy which includes, but is not limited to, Microsoft Office suite
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to be flexible with work schedule as required
